Winegeart took Kendall and First Coast area City Councilman Gavin Rollins on one of his Bar Pilot boats from its' Mayport based facility to Jaxport near Talleyrand and spoke about economic and environmental concerns dealing with improving Jacksonville's cargo ship business. Winegeart's Bar Pilot Association supervises all incoming and outgoing cargo ships into the downtown Jacksonville economy. Kendall was informed on dredging issues, improvement of the St. John's River shipping corridor and the future of the River with regard to other area ports, such as Savannah, Ga., Charleston, SC, and Ft. Lauderdale.

Fletcher High hosted the "Gateway Conference For Wrestling" on Saturday at Fletcher Gym, with a huge crowd of fans cheering on. Most of Duval County high schools participated. Semi finals were held Saturday morning. Winners from the morning session advanced to the finals Saturday night. Some of the schools that made it to the finals were Fletcher, Stanton, Raines, Terry Parker Andrew Jackson, Mandarin and many more. Emotions ran high from the crowd, coaches and wrestlers as macthes progressed towards end of the night.

City Scramble Adventure Race

The City Scramble along with O'Brothers Irish Pub, hosted the 1st annual City Scramble Adventure Run in Riverside this morning. Teams of two people each ran a total of 6 miles, It's getting to the end that's the hard part. Each team used a sheet of paper with clues that had to be figured out in order to make it to the next stop. At each stop, teams had to solve more clues and trivia's using phones or laptops with internet, digital cameras and maps. Time bonuses are giving for clues solved. Teams also had to accomplish assigned activities that involved each member. Race time is anywhere from 2 to 4 hours. City Scramble donated proceeds to Hope Haven. With a final score of 29-27, the senior athletes from the South rose to the occasion and kept the North high school all stars in check for the remainder of the game after the initial score in the first quarter at the University of North Florida Hodges Stadium. Coached by Clay High School's Matt Toblin, senior athletes playing for the south represented Orange Park, St. Augustine, Clay, Creekside, Bartram Trail, Keystone Heights, Middleburg, Menendez, Fleming Island, Bradford, Palatka, Ponte Vedra, Matanzas, St. Johns Country Day and Ridgeview high schools. Duval County SWAT Practices City Council Rules

The Duval County SWAT (Students Working Against Tobacco) team and members of the Duval County Department of Health got a hands-on look on the parliamentary procedures of the Jacksonville City Council complete with a visit to the council chambers and a chat with Mayor John Peyton's chief of staff Adam Hollingsworth. Students attending were from Southside Middle School, Paxon High School, Sandalwood High School, Englewood High School and the Jacksonville Job Corps. A state-wide government affairs consultant and social issues advocate, Matt Justice, gave the group a step-by-step, hands-on tutorial on parliamentary procedure according to Robert's Rules. The Tobacco Free Jacksonville coalition is attempting to inform local politicians on the dangers of candy-flavored tobacco products and the targeting of young children by the industry.

FOP Christmas Party for Special Needs Children

The Fraternal Order of Police and Jacksonville Sheriff's Office, hosted their annual Christmas party for Duval County School children with special needs. The children were served by police officers, a turkey lunch. They got to play in the police cars and on the motorcycles while waiting for Santa to arrive. When Santa showed up, not a child was in their seat. All stood and cheered for his entrance. They waited anxiously in line for their time to sit on Santa's lap and receive a toy from him. Many thanks to the Fraternal Order of Police and the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office for giving these children a wonderful time.

The Smoking Beaver hosted a run in honor of six-year-old Emilee Petteway, who fell victim to Leukemia. Sidnee Feagle, Emilee’s best friend has a quest to raise one million dollars for The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society to help fight the disease that took her friend. This past Saturday marked the first annual Poker Run for Emilee which was hosted at the Smoking Beaver, 5683 Arlington Road. There were over 60 participating riders, raffle drawings, auctions, a dunking booth and hair donations from Sydney, Jen Wewer, Sydney's dad Billy, Howard Barry III and many others -- all benefiting Wigs 4 Kids. Despite three touchdown runs by Parker senior Antonio Baker, the Mustangs were able to stampede in the second half to pull ahead of the Braves 45-27.
The first annual Kids Win Fishing Tournament was held September 19 2009 at Browns Creek Fish Camp on Heckscher Drive and was open to ages 4 through 16. Winners in the two age groups 4 through 10 and 11 through 16 received trophies, cash and prizes. It was a day of fun for everyone and a huge success with over 100 families entering the contest. Next years date is already set, September 18 2010.
